Fairmilehead Park

Fairmilehead Park, an attractive green space in the southern reaches of Edinburgh is now primarily recreational. However, there used to be a large glacial erratic here in an old sand pit. The erratic boulder was a piece of glacially transported local volcanic rock and demonstrates the awesome power of ice that Edinburgh was subject to more than 15,000 years ago. From time to time the pit has been re-excavated and it is well documented although not currently visible.
