Under the terms of the The Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, members of the Edinburgh Geological Society Council are "Charity Trustees". The information below is intended to ensure that all Council members, and prospective members, know about their duties and understand their legal responsibilities.
If you are interested in joining the EGS Council, please get in touch with an existing Council member (see Contacts) to find out more ... we very much welcome the involvement of members and there are many tasks, large and small, that you can help with!
The induction pack contains:
1.The
Guidance Notes for Charity Trustees issued by theOffice of the Scottish
Charity Regulator, which can be downloaded from the OSCR
website.
2. A copy of the Laws of the Edinburgh Geological Society (view
here)
3. A list of the Committees of the Society describing the remit of
each - pdf file
4. A Code of Conduct
for Council members acting in their role as charity trustees (This contains a
section to sign, declaring any conflicts of interest, and declaring that a member
is not disqualified from acting as a charity trustee) - pdf

5.The checklist of responsibilities currently carried by each of our
council officers and others - in preparation
