Membership

Come and discover the geology that is all around you in the company of friendly enthusiasts who can explain the origins of the rocks, minerals and fossils and the part they played in the story of the Earth. Most join as Ordinary Fellows, but there are special rates for family members, students, juniors and Fellows of the Glasgow Geological Society (see below).

1. Download and print a membership leaflet (pdf file, 877 kB) or if you prefer, just the form (pdf file, 313 kB).
2. Fill in and sign the membership form and Gift Aid declaration
3. Post it to the Membership Secretary with your payment (or, even better, a completed Standing Order form).

The Society recognises the following categories of membership:

Ordinary Fellow: Aged 23 or over. The current subscription rate is £20 per annum.

Family Fellow: Open to one other adult living at the same address as an Ordinary Fellow. £10 per annum.

Senior Fellow: Available to an Ordinary Fellow of one or more years membership who has attained the age of sixty. Senior Fellows do not receive the Scottish Journal of Geology. The current subscription rate is £10 per annum.

Life Fellow: Available to Ordinary, Senior or Family Fellows by one single payment of a composition fee. This fee is fifty times the current ordinary subscription and allowance is made for previously paid annual subscriptions.

Junior Associate: Available to persons under 23 years of age at the beginning of the session of their admission or undertaking full-time education during the session of their admission. £4 per annum

Glasgow Associate: Ordinary members of the Glasgow Geological Society. £10 per annum.

Honorary Fellow: conferred on an individual in recognition of merit or achievement in the science of geology, elected by a majority of votes at an ordinary meeting of the Society. The normal limit of Honorary Fellows of the Society is fifteen.

Corresponding Fellow: conferred on an individual of scientific merit or achievement outside the United Kingdom, elected by a majority of votes at an ordinary meeting of the Society. The normal limit of Correponding Fellows of the Society is twenty.

Distinguished Fellow: conferred on an individual in recognition of service to the Society, elected by a majority of votes at an ordinary meeting of the Society. The normal limit of Distinguished Fellows of the Society is ten.
