Geological Society, founded in 1834, organises public lectures
in winter, excursions in summer and publishes books, leaflets,
excursion guides and periodicals.
The aim of the
society is to encourage public interest in geology and the
advancement of geological knowledge. We are one of the largest
geological societies in the UK.
Our three GeoConservation
subcommittees - Lothian and Borders GeoConservation, Stirling
and Clackmannan RIGS Group and Tayside Geodiversity - identify
and promote local sites of interest.
makes various grants for fieldwork and to support projects
that further our aims. We also recognise excellence in geology
by awarding the Clough Medal and the Clough Memorial Award.
