Cover illustration: the cover illustration shows a drawing of Hemiarges inghami, a trilobite froom the Ordovician Stinchar Limestone near Girvan. This species lived along the coast of Laurentia, but found Avalonia a bit on the cool side (see article by Phil Stone, 'The Geology of Devolution on page 8).

The drawing is taken from a paper by R P Tripp (Palaeontology, 1979, Vol 22, 339-361) and is reproduced by kind permission of the Palaeontological Association.
